I feel you should be pointing out a couple of things about the chassis screws that are not obvious to the inexperienced - the 6 screws that are not along the hinge edge of the body (4 yellow & 2 of the orange) are not perpendicular to the flat surface; they go in at an angle such that their heads are flat in the curve in which they sit. Attempting to hold the screwdriver upright in these heads could lead to damage to the screws, stripping out the 'cross' - attempting to insert these screws 'straight' when reassembling will lead to cross-threading and stripping the screw threads. All went well. Entirely doable. I did the memory while I was in there too. So now have 16Gb and a 1TB SSD running!
Orphaned inodes, are common, but they do normally get cleaned, latest after a restart. This is not a bug, it's the journaling clearing up a normal situation. An 'orphaned' inode in this context is one which has been explicitly deleted, but which was still open by some process when it was deleted. The file vanishes completely from the directory structure, but normal Unix semantics require it to remain present on disk until the last user of that file closes it. At that point, the inode itself (as opposed to the directory entries pointing to it) is deleted, and the disk space used by the file is cleaned up.

Besides, even when I heavily tax the drive, it doesn’t get that hot. Robin, It is very kind of you to be so patient with all these questions. I’ve read everything on this page and am still not certain how to proceed. Many of the comments are admittedly way above my head. PS: I also read somewhere that you only need to enable TRIM temporarily, to get the SSD up to full speed again (i.e. To make the drive understand that it’s not full). So in theory, you could then re-enable the kext signing restrictions until you experience a slowdown. And with a new SSD, it probably wouldn’t even be an issue for a while.
